Sailing school at Pistakee offers various classes this summer for all ages

The Community Sailing School at Pistakee offers a variety of sailing classes catered to all ages, including beginner and advanced sailing camps, adult classes, Kindersail classes, racing lessons and paddle boarding classes.

The school is on the Chain O' Lakes at the historic Pistakee Yacht Club in Johnsburg.

The beginner and advanced sailing camps are designed for youth and young adults. They are taught weekly throughout the summer from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Monday evening Kindersail class is meant for ages 4- 7. Each class meets from 5 to 7 p.m. for four consecutive weeks.

As a bonus, parents can also learn to paddle board at the same time their youngsters are learning to sail.

The adult sailing course is offered five times throughout the summer. Lessons are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for two consecutive weeks.

Paddle boarding classes are open to all ages. They are held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays for four consecutive weeks. Participants can explore the many sights and shores of Pistakee Bay as they hone their paddle boarding skills.

Racing lessons are from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Learn how to "round the mark" from some of the best competitive sailors in the Midwest.

The school also offers a two-week sailing instructor class for those who already have some sailing experience and would like to take that next step to become an instructor.

The sailing school is staffed by U.S. Sailing Association certified instructors.
