Northwestern Medicine emergency departments donate to Turning Point, a local domestic violence organization
Five local Northwestern Medicine emergency departments joined together to donate toiletry items to Turning Point, an organization in McHenry that supports families impacted by domestic violence.
The participating emergency departments included: Northwestern Medicine McHenry, Huntley, Woodstock, Lake Forest Hospital and the Grayslake Outpatient Center.
An additional donation to the organization was provided by Dr. Dan Campagna, MD, president of the medical staff for the Northwestern Medicine Northwest Region.
Turning Point, which is based in Woodstock, offers crisis services for victims of domestic violence including adult services, children's services, Latino services, and trauma recovery and empowerment groups.
Its intervention and education services for adults and adolescents include partner abuse intervention programs, nurturing parenting programs, and women's intervention survivor's programs.
An emergency shelter, opened in 2007, provides a safe and secure environment on an emergency basis for 30 days for adults and children fleeing a violent situation.
Turning Point also offers legal assistance to victims who need to file emergency orders of protection. Its prevention and education services focus on domestic violence and the effects of violence on youth, adults and the community.
