New local partnership to benefit McHenry County single mothers and their children

Have you heard that Fellowship Housing received a $25,000 grant from The Community Foundation for McHenry County this year? The Community Foundation for McHenry County and Fellowship Housing are excited to announce their new partnership.

Over the past four years, Fellowship Housing's vision has been to find every motivated single mom in the service area and empower them to build a new legacy for their family. This has led to a 33% increase in the number of moms served. But many moms are too far away from the current housing in Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Elgin. They simply cannot reach the hand being held out to help them. Fellowship Housing believes that's unacceptable and is doing something about it with an expansion project into McHenry County; in fact, the first two McHenry County apartments are already available to moms in need!

The $25,000 grant from The Community Foundation for McHenry County will be used to further Fellowship Housing's McHenry Expansion project and will directly empower single moms and their children in the McHenry County area with safe housing for two years, referral for resources like counseling, career training, food programs, car repairs and more, intense financial training, 1:1 mentoring and assistance securing permanent housing upon graduation.

Fellowship Housing Executive Director Pam Orr shared, "It's exciting to begin this new partnership with The Community Foundation for McHenry County, our first local partnership in McHenry County. I believe firmly that when organizations partner together, more good work can be accomplished!"

For 30 years, Fellowship Housing has shown Christ-like love to over 950 single mothers and their children by providing two years of safe and affordable transitional housing, financial training, accountability and a focused path from crisis to long-term stability. They believe single moms are some of the hardest working people on the planet. It is a joy and honor to come alongside single mothers in times of crisis so they can build a new legacy for their families.

The Community Foundation for McHenry County is the local leader for providing legacy giving opportunities to the community's donors and charitable organizations. Founded in 2001 to ensure financial support to McHenry County's charitable community forever, the foundation today is a $48 million organization that serves to "connect people who care with causes that matter."

Its mission is to philanthropically address the needs of McHenry County by providing leadership, granting resources, stewarding assets, and fostering awareness. The foundation and its community of donors provides financial support and leadership to charitable organizations that serve the residents in our county.
