Downers Grove Choral Society continues its 61st concert season with 'Poetic Portraits' March 8

The Downers Grove Choral Society, with artistic director John Patrick Rakes, continues its 61st concert season on Sunday, March 8.

"Poetic Portraits" will feature English composer John Rutter's "The Sprig of Thyme" and American composer Morten Lauridsen's "Mid-Winter Songs."

"Alleluia" by American composer Randall Thompson and "The Awakening" by American composer Joseph M. Martin will complete the program.

There will be a pre-concert discussion at 3:15 p.m., followed by the 4 p.m. concert.

The "Poetic Portraits" concert will be presented at First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple Ave. in Downers Grove.

The Downers Grove Choral Society, anchored in Downers Grove, draws its members from around the Chicago area. The membership extends well beyond Downers Grove, including such communities as Western Springs, Elgin, Woodridge, Lemont, Wheaton, Geneva, Naperville, Prospect Heights, Lombard, Aurora, Villa Park and Willowbrook, to name just a few.

Concert tickets in advance are $20, $15 for seniors or $10 for students. At the door, tickets are $22, $17 for seniors, or $12 for students.
