March 10: CLC hosts Science Olympiad

About 1,000 middle- and high-school science students will gather at the College of Lake County Saturday, March 10 for the Grayslake Regional Science Olympiad Competition.

With event titles such as "Meteorology," "Hovercraft," "Mousetrap Vehicle" and "Thermodynamics," the events allow students to do cool science experiments and participate in heated competitions. The 2018 Science Olympiad runs from 7:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The competitions will be held at locations throughout CLC's Grayslake Campus.

Some of the most popular and spectator-friendly events involve robots, helicopters, electric vehicles and rollercoasters. Visitors are invited to watch these events at various locations on the Grayslake Campus. Events will run all day, but most of these spectator events will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. CLC faculty members will be involved in the competition as event supervisors, using their expertise in areas such as lasers/photonics/optics, chemistry and physics.

The 17 participating high schools include: Cary Grove, Warren Township, Huntley, Libertyville, Stevenson, Lake Forest, Grayslake Central and Grayslake North. The list also includes Lake Forest Academy, New Trier (Northfield and Winnetka), Mundelein, Marian Catholic (Woodstock) and Crystal Lake South.
