Unseasonably warm February temperatures on Monday made it the perfect day for a walk across the Larry Gabriel Bridge on the Fox River Trail running through Island Park in Geneva. The bridge is named in honor of Larry Gabriel, the former Superintendent of Parks in Geneva.

The Palatine Fire Honor Guard marches to a memorial service Thursday, February 23, 2023 in Palatine to recognize the service and sacrifice of three Palatine volunteer firefighters who died in the line of duty 50 years earlier. On Feb. 23, 1973, volunteer firefighters John Wilson, Richard Freeman and Warren Ahlgrim lost their lives fighting a fire in the Ben Franklin store in downtown Palatine.
