A jet crosses the path of a sun pillar seen from Glenview on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Sun pillars happen when a strong light source, in this case it is the setting sun, reflects off tiny ice crystals that are suspended in the air. The bitter cold and bright sun were the perfect conditions on Saturday. This sun pillar lasted less than 10 minutes and got stronger as the sun got lower.

Elgin artist Freddrick D. Wimms curated the "Black Then, Black Now, Black in the Middle …" art exhibit at Side Street Studios in Elgin in honor of Black History Month. The exhibit features work from 30 artists, both local and from around the country, and will run through the end of the month.

Condo complexes in Palatine pile up mounds of snow at the end of driveways, lack of property space to store the vast amounts of snow this year has caught them off guard. Snow piled up high at the end of driveways make it hard to see for a driver as they pull out into the intersection.
