Grayslake Arts Alliance Plans Workshops at the Local Heritage Center
The Grayslake Arts Alliance will host its first ever series of art workshops for the community, starting in October at the Heritage Center.
Arts Alliance artists Paul Price, Lily Gaines, and Paula Casey will teach classes in fluid acrylics, watercolor and quilted holiday ornaments respectively; all will be conducted in the community room of the Heritage Center, 164, Hawley Ave., Grayslake.
"We are very excited to be able to offer these classes," said Maureen Fisher Rivkin, a certified art instructor, public school teacher and herself a GAA artist, who helped design the workshop program. "It builds perfectly on our mission to bring the arts to our community through education."
The workshops are another example of the cooperation between the arts alliance and the Grayslake Heritage Center Foundation, which operates the Heritage Center, said Price, who assisted in the development of the program and will take over its management.
"Without the kind support of the village and the foundation, these workshops, as well as much of the progress the GAA has made overall, might not be possible," he said.
Price's workshop on acrylics starts Oct. 7, and in it students will learn how to create colorful pieces of abstract art. It is intended for children age 5 and older as well as adults. It costs $25.
In Gaines' watercolor workshop Nov. 3, students will learn the possibilities of working with watercolor to create a landscape. Students should bring a travel picture or magazine as a point of departure. The class costs $25 per student and is designed for all ages.
Casey's holiday ornament workshop Dec. 8 will teach students how to create an intricate fabric ornament that will make a perfect holiday tree decoration. The class costs $25, plus a $5 charge for materials payable at the time of the class. Children 10 and older or adults may sign up.
