Chicago artist Deanna Krueger to display abstract pieces at CLC Art Gallery

A new exhibit called "Deanna Krueger: Shimmer" will open at the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art at the College of Lake County on Feb. 27 and run through April 4. The exhibit will kick off with a reception on Feb. 27 from 7-9 p.m. in the gallery, located on CLC's Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. The opening night reception will include refreshments and musical entertainment by Anderson Nordmark Duo, acoustic guitar. A cash bar will be available.

Krueger, a Chicago artist who teaches at Northeastern Illinois University, makes "shimmering" tapestries using acrylic monotypes on recycled medical diagnostic film, embellished with staples. "I work abstractly at the juncture where sculpture and painting intersect. The resulting pieces are hybrids. The process for my current series begins with recycled medical diagnostic film layered with acrylic monotype prints. The film is then torn apart and the shards are reconnected into new configurations using thousands of staples," Krueger said.

Her art has been displayed at the Museum of Santa Severa, Italy; Berliner Liste 07; Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Rockford Art Museum, Rockford, Ill.; Lighthouse Center for the Arts, Tequesta, Fla; Gallery UNO Projektraum, Neukölln, Berlin; South Shore Arts, Munster, Ind.; and numerous other venues. In 2014, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art purchased one of her "Shards" pieces for its permanent collection. Her work also resides in many corporate and private collections across the United States.

Krueger received her B.F.A. summa cum laude from the University of Michigan in 2002, her M.F.A. from Eastern Michigan University in 2004 and studied abroad in Italy in spring 2003. She has received several awards and professional development grants and has taken part in artist residencies at Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts in Saratoga, Wyoming; Ragdale in Lake Forest, Ill. and at Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, Mass.
