Lake County Talent Show July 13 benefits YMCA

Lake County Family YMCA Ambassador Antoineo Harris, former Chicago Bear, is hosting Lake County's talent show finale July 13.

Harris has run a series of auditions, most of which took place at the Northern Lake YMCA in Waukegan. He and other judges have narrowed the field.

“Our 24 finalists consist of incredibly talented singers and dancers in three different age categories,” Harris said. “It's obvious that Lake County has some outstanding people and talent.”

Open to the public, the talent show will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Flatlander's Brewing Company, 200 Village Green, Lincolnshire. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Entry fee includes complimentary appetizers.

Proceeds will be donated to the Lake County Family YMCA to help local families in need.

“My main reason to do this is to give back to the community and to connect the community to the YMCA,” Harris explained. “Our talent show helps let everyone know that the YMCA is moving in a positive direction toward its mission to provide programs and services that promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.”

Harris, also a former Fighting Illini great and Green Bay Packer, defines the age categories as 5 to 13, 14 to 20 and 21 and older. A total of $2,000 will be awarded to winners. Each finalist also will receive a two-week complimentary pass to the Y.

Flatlander's Brewing Company owner Russ Sher said he will donate a portion of the day's proceeds to the cause.

“We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with the Y following the Brand New Day event we hosted at the end of May,” Sher said. “This is another way in which Flatlander's can give back to the community.”

One of the celebrity judges will be Steve “Silk” Hurley, a four-time Grammy nominee who can be heard on the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show.”
