Cary-Grove notches No. 50 in a row
Championship one is secured, now it's on to what Cary-Grove's volleyball team hopes is bigger and better things again.
The Trojans secured another Fox Valley Conference Valley Division championship and won their 50th straight match with a 25-12, 25-17 win over Crystal Lake South Tuesday night.
Kelly Lamberti and Ashley Rosch each had 5 kills, while Colleen Smith dished out 19 assists for the Trojans (34-0, 9-0).
Katie Meyers had 6 digs and Carli Schumacher 6 assists for Crystal Lake South (16-16, 4-5).
Jacobs d. McHenry: Alyssa Eherhardt had 10 kills, Tayler Lesner added 6 kills and Quinn Leuhring had 21 assists as the Golden Eagles (18-11, 4-5) notched a 25-20, 25-14 FVC Valley win.
Hampshire d. Marengo: Alex Dumoulin had 8 kills, Alyssa Kissane 14 digs and Leigh-Anne Libby 20 assists to lead Hampshire (14-12, 7-3) to a 25-14, 23-25, 25-23 Big Northern East win.
Geneva d. Elgin: Brianna Hamilton had 4 kills and Heather Gawaluck added 6 assists in Elgin's 25-10, 25-10 Upstate Eight River loss. Paige Snopko had 2 kills for the Maroons (3-31).
Richmond d. Burlington Central: Sydney Sand had 7 kills and Brenda Thasavong added 4 kills and 3 blocks but Burlington Central (11-21, 5-5) fell in the Big Northern East. Hayley Brake had 3 kills and 2 blocks while Kaitlyn O'Reilly had 3 kills, 12 assists and 2 aces and Sam Bohne added 10 digs for BC.
St. Charles East d. Streamwood: Liz Simonelli had 10 digs and Ashley Barnes added 3 kills and 5 assists for Streamwood in its 25-11, 25-8 UEC River loss.
Huntley d. Dundee-Crown: Sam Boesch had 6 kills and Eli Manning added 9 assists to lead Huntley (29-4, 7-2) to a 25-8, 25-13 win over Dundee-Crown and second place in the FVC Valley. Alexis Holm had 3 kills and 6 digs for the Chargers (4-26, 0-9) and Carlin Faulkner added 12 digs.
Bartlett d. Lake Park: Kelly Kraft and Lauren Hartford each had 7 kills to power Bartlett (18-11, 4-2) to a 25-18, 25-12 UEC Valley win. Lauren Caruba had 13 digs for the Hawks and Tori Burke 18 assists.
St. Francis d. St. Edward: Steph Igielski had 3 kills and Katie Ayello 6 digs for St. Edward (10-19, 1-7) in a 25-19, 25-4 Suburban Christian Blue loss to St. Francis.
