No. 1 Neuqua Valley holds off West Chicago
Top-ranked Neuqua Valley held off No. 18 seed West Chicago 1-0 in the Class 3A Waubonsie Valley regional semifinals Tuesday in Aurora.
Sam Al-Qady scored for Neuqua Valley (24-0-1) off an assist from senior defender Keegan Balle. Neuqua Valley goalkeeper Jack Turanchik didn't have to make a save for his 16th shutout of the season.
Hinsdale Central 4, DeLaSalle 0: Mike Bucheleres, Mike Olesziewicz and Robbie LaRocque scored in the run of play, and Olesziewicz added a penalty kick for the Red Devils in the Class 3A DeLaSalle regional.
Glenbard South 9, Jones 0: The Raiders (15-1-2) opened play in the Class 2A University High regional with a resounding win. Michael Pyle scored 3 goals, Isaac Agguire added 2 goals and 2 assists, Dan O'Brien scored twice, Matt Traynor added a goal and Kevin Miller scored 1 goal. O'Brien's goals were his 27th and 28th on the season, breaking the school single-season scoring record. The Raiders play in the regional final Friday.
Wheaton Academy 3, Grayslake Central 0: Tim Daniels scored twice and had the assist on Babel Daniel's goal as the top-seeded Warriors advanced in the Class 2A Grayslake Central regional. They will play Oswego for the regional crown Saturday. Philip Oster notched the shutout in goal.
Fenton 5, North Grand 0: Mariano Herrera, David Mendoza, Jacek Milewski, Pedro Lacatero and Ivan Riamondo tallied the goals for the Bison (10-12-1) at the Class 2A Chicago Academy regional. Pedro Acuna made 6 saves for the shutout.
Timothy Christian 2, Chicago Christian 1: Despite losing a player to a red card early in the second half, the Trojans won the Class A Timothy Christian regional title. Corey Phillip scored after sophomore midfielder Nolan DuBois stripped the ball from a Chicago Christian player. A Nate Middel header gave the Trojans their 2-goal lead. The Trojans will play Francis Parker in the Lisle sectional semifinals Saturday night.
