Lake Zurich earns berth in NSC title game

Lake Zurich 6, Zion-Benton 1: Brenden Seeger, Nick Janus and Tim Kreutz each scored twice, as the Bears clinched a berth in next Wednesday's North Suburban Conference championship game for the fourth straight year.

Lake Zurich (14-4) and Stevenson (14-3) both finished 5-1 in the NSC Lake Division, but the Bears won the tiebreaker based on their 4-1 win over the Patriots on Tuesday.

Against host Zion-Benton, Eric Pothast and Brett Harper each added a pair of assists, while Luis Corral collected an assist as well. Jeff Kreutz made 5 saves in goal.

Lakes hosts Round Lake at 4:30 p.m. today to determine the winner of the NSC Prairie.

Stevenson 3, Warren 2: Shawn Singh had a goal and 2 assists for the Patriots, who earned a share of the North Suburban Lake title. Gordy Gurson and Steven Johnson also scored for Stevenson (14-3). Gurson added an assist, as well, while Patriots keeper Greg Golovan made 14 saves. Thiago Ganancio, who just committed to DePaul, and Brady Walsh (penalty kick) scored for Warren (9-6-3).

Libertyville 1, Lake Forest 1: Kevin Fanning scored for Libertyville (5-7-2). Lake Forest (12-3-1) finished 4-1-1 in the NSC Lake.

Grayslake Central 3, Grayslake North 2 (PKs): The Rams rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit, spoiling the Knights' homecoming match. Grayslake Central received the 11th goals of the season from both Albert Acosta and Caleb Longenecker. Phillip Longenecker and Jose Roman tallied assists.

"The boys showed unbelievable heart and character," Rams coach Mike McCaulou said. "I could not be more proud of them. They deserve this win."

Grayslake North (5-12, 4-7 Fox Valley Fox) got goals from Luis Martinez and Julio Zamora. Brian Stout and Freddy Rosas had assists.

Grayslake North had beaten Grayslake Central in penalty kicks earlier this season.

"Credit to Central," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "They did not quit and they grinded out a great win."

Antioch 4, North Chicago 0: The Sequoits' Robert Nogle scored his 17th and 18th goals of the season, and Alex Grimm got the shutout in goal. Antioch (13-5) also got goals from Ryan Geidner and Jordan Frazer.

Grant 2, Wauconda 1: Andrew Noda and Gabriel Velarde scored for Grant (6-12-1), which led 1-0 at halftime.
