Hurd pitches Warren to 25th victory of season
A day after Warren's softball team set a school record for wins in a season, the Blue Devils had more to celebrate Wednesday.
Kayla Hurd struck out 15 in a complete-game 2-hitter, as the Blue Devils blanked visiting Vernon Hills 5-0 in a North Suburban Conference crossover for their 25th victory.
Warren (25-7) received 2 hits apiece from Alex Booker (double, 2 runs, stolen base), Lindsay Horwitz (double, 2 RBI) and Hurd (RBI). Kaiti McKeon contributed a single and run scored, and Sarah Clauser had a triple, 2 RBI and run scored.
Stevenson 17, Round Lake 0: Ashley Niedermayer hit her school-record eighth home run of the season - an inside-the-parker with two runners on base - as the Patriots won the North Suburban crossover in five innings.
Emma Patrash also hit an inside-the-park home run for Stevenson (18-15), and she also doubled. Niedermayer's homer broke Sami Sutker's record set in 1998.
On Senior Day, the Patriots got 3 hits from Patrash and two apiece from Amanda Jaegers, Rebekah Ozga (double, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Allie Micucci (triple), Genny Duffy (2 RBI, 2 runs) and Megan Felz (RBI). Heather Cohen had a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Libertyville 21, N. Chicago 3: Mandy Vogg (3 runs, double) and Olivia Wilcox (3 runs, 2 RBI) each had 4 hits, and Andie Grant went 3-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI for the host Wildcats in the North Suburban crossover.
Libertyville (15-17) received 2 hits apiece from Toni Kintzel (double, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Danille Kaczmar, Calley Kaluzny, Lisa Cooper and Samantha Bone.
Vogg earned the win in the circle, striking out eight.
Carmel 9, Nazareth 3: On Senior Day, seniors Rachel Tack, Eden Warnke and Meg Grady had big games for the host Corsairs in their East Suburban Catholic Conference win.
Tack earned the win, striking out nine in a complete-game effort.
Warnke homered, doubled and drove in 2 runs. Grady doubled, singled and knocked in two.
Also for Carmel, Kelley Dodge was 2-for-2 with a walk and 2 runs scored, and Madaline Felipez had a single, sacrifice and 3 RBI.
CL South 9, Grayslake Central 1: Claire Brennan had a double for the Rams in their Fox Valley Conference loss.
Mundelein 8, Wauconda 6: Mary VanderMeer hit a solo homer and singled, as the host Mustangs held on in the North Suburban crossover.
Justina Doll (RBI) and Deanna Wise each went 3-for-4 with a double for Mundelein (7-19). Hillary Bunnelle earned the complete-game win, allowing 4 earned runs.
Grant 7, Lake Forest 4: Morgan Liles had 2 doubles and 4 RBI for the Bulldogs in the North Suburban crossover.
Brie Brugioni added 3 hits for Grant (18-13).
