Snarski sparks Carmel to sweep
Sally Snarski socked it.
And Carmel Catholic's softball team snagged a couple of wins Saturday.
The Corsairs swept an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader from visiting St. Joseph, holding on for a 7-6 win in the opener and taking the second game 4-2.
Freshman Erika Schoenfeld pitched 6 innings for the victory in Game 1, with Rachel Tack striking out the side in the seventh for the save.
Besides Snarski's solo homer, Carmel (7-15, 2-6) got offense from Madaline Felipez, who had a single and 2 RBI.
Game 2 saw Tack go the distance in the circle, striking out 10 and not walking a batter. Felipez had a double and 3 RBI, Kelley Dodge singled and walked three times, and Eden Warnke doubled and knocked in a run.
Stevenson splits with Prospect: The Patriots lost the opener 4-3, despite Heather Cohen's 2 double, before rapping out 15 hits in a 15-1 win.
Cohen (3-for-4), Amanda Jaegers (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 runs) and Allie Micucci (2-for-3, triple, 4 RBI, 3 runs) paced the offensive attack. Genny Duffy had a double for Stevenson (15-10).
Grant sweeps Johnsburg: The Bulldogs won a pair of nonconference games, 2-1 and 15-0.
Rachel DePouw retired 18 batters in a row in the opener and got offensive support from Brie Brugioni, who hit her sixth homer. Amber Smith had 2 hits.
Grant (15-10) got doubles in Game 2 from Amber Smith, Sarah Defries, Hannah Graham and Kelly Kucharski. Smith and Graham each had 3 hits, and Brugioni got the win.
Libertyville splits with Waukegan: After losing the first game 3-1, the Wildcats won the second game of the nonconference doubleheader 7-2.
Libertyville (6-16) got 2 hits apiece in Game 2 from winning pitcher Mandy Vogg (RBI), Toni Kintzel (double), Erika Teitz (2 RBI) and Athena Cocallas (triple, RBI). Vogg struck out six.
Andie Grant went 2-for-3 for the Wildcats in Game 1 and scored their only run on a single by Danielle Kaczmar.
Lake Zurich 13, Jacobs 3: The Bears kept up their hot hitting, as Amanda Orchard (double, 3 runs, RBI, stolen base) and Kelly Neises (2 RBI) each had 3 hits. Megan Mattera (double, 4 RBI) and Kelli Blume (RBI) each had 2 hits.
Erin Sweeney also had a double for Lake Zurich (15-8).
Mattera (12-7) pitched a 6-inning complete game, striking out seven, walking three and allowing 8 hits.
Vernon Hills goes 1-2 at Buffalo Grove: The Cougars (8-16) had a 10-0 win over Streamwood following losses to Buffalo Grove (5-4) and Warren (11-4).
Jennifer Claussen had 2 homers and 4 RBI against Streamwood, while Bridget Munoz also had 2 hits.
Warren goes 2-1 at Buffalo Grove: The Blue Devils beat Streamwood 7-5 and Vernon Hills 11-4, and lost to Buffalo Grove 1-0.
In Warren's loss to Buffalo Grove, Maria Dax of the Bison outdueled Kayla Hurd.
Andrea DiPrima scored the game's only run on Danielle Browne's groundout in the fourth.
