Four Harper players net volleyball honors

Four Harper College women’s volleyball players have earned all-region honors.

Setter Alyssa Cazzato (Bartlett), Libero Andraia Leja (Prairie Ridge), and outside hitter Lauren LaMasse (Hoffman Estates) were named to the all-region team.

In addition, Cazzato and outside hitter Sarah House (Crystal Lake South) were named to the all-tournament team in Region IV, where the Hawks lost in three sets in the regional semifinals to eventual champion Rock Valley.

This is the second straight season the Golden Eagles qualified for the national tournament.

The Hawks finished the season 34-14 and in second place in the North Central Community College Conference.

Ÿ Harper midfielder Kyle O’Meara (Palatine) was the only member of the Harper men’s soccer team named to the all-region team. Midfielder Diego Caldera (Elk Grove) and forward Lorenzo Savino (Fremd) earned first team all-North Central Community College Conference honors.

Goalie Jorge Caballero (Palatine) and defender Alex Bochat (Fremd) earned second team all-N4C accolades. The Hawks finished in fourth with a 5-5 record in N4C action.

Ÿ The Harper women’s soccer team wrapped up its season with a 5-3 loss in the Region IV tournament final. The Hawks ended the season with 9-7 record.

Several players earned postseason acclaim. Earning first team all-region and all-N4C honors were midfielder Leah Tednes (Hoffman Estates) and a pair of high school teamates, defender Amanda Herdegen and Bree Nishibun of Fremd.

Earning second team all-N4C and all-region were Chloe Takala (Fremd) and Samantha Rill (Schaumburg).

Ÿ Twelve members of the Harper College football team earned all-region honors.

Punter Ben Weishaupt (Fenton), running back Ronald Zollicoffer, cornerback Jameel High and linbacker Darius Moffett were named to the first team.

Offensive linemen Thomas Ehrlich and Tom Steinhable (Dundee Crown), linebackers Louis Erkins (Glenbard South) and Travis Parker, tight end David DeLacy, running back Greg Kennedy (Warren) and defensive lineman Trevor Svartoien and Evan Van Klei (Crystal Lake South) were named to the second team .
