Wauconda nips Grant in battle of Bulldogs
In a match between Bulldogs, Wauconda’s baseball team defeated Grant 7-6 in nine innings Tuesday to seal the North Suburban Prairie Division title.
Shawn Sundquist got on base after a fielder’s choice and scored Wauconda’s winning run after an error.
Offensive standouts also included Jake Ziolkowski and John Kamakis, both of whom doubled for Wauconda (16-9).
Jake Ring singled and doubled for Grant, and Jared Helmich added 2 singles and 2 RBI.
Stevenson 10, Warren 8: Stevenson led 6-1 through six innings until Warren added 6 runs in the seventh to take the lead. But the Patriots came back with 1 run in the seventh to tie and three more in the eighth to win their North Suburban Lake Division finale.
Dalsen Ferbert pitched 6⅖ innings for Stevenson (24-4, 11-1), striking out five and allowing 7 hits. Scott Irving got the win, and Jacob Sholl notched the save.
Offensively, Max Golembo was 5-for-5 with a double and 2 runs scored, and Sholl went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Dylan Douglas added a double.
Cal Haley led the Blue Devils with a double and 2 RBI. Mike Herrmann and Pat Kenney had 2 hits apiece, and Kenney added 2 RBI.
Stevenson will host Wauconda at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the NSC championship game.
Lake Zurich 5, Zion-Benton 2: The Bears continued their climb to .500 with their fourth win in a row.
“The Bears continue to come up with timely hitting led by Mark Dorfman and Mitch Tuthill with 2 hits apiece,” Bears coach Gary Simon said.
Jeremy Reusch and Tim Sayre also came up with 2-out RBI singles for the Bears (12-15).
Simon said Parker Asmann got stronger as the game progressed, striking out eight and walking one.
Lakes 9, Round Lake 1: Paul Kukulka had 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI, to improve Lakes’ record to 17-12 and 9-3 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.
Chris Hoffman got the win, striking out six and allowing only 2 hits.
Crystal Lake South 5, Grayslake Central 3: Austin Miller had 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI, and Ryan Hamrick had 3 hits and a run scored. Derek Idstein also doubled for the Rams.
Grayslake North 7, Jacobs 2: The Knights (11-17, 10-12 FVC Fox) got a 2-run double and RBI single from Adam Gomski.
C.J. Bailey also had 2 hits for Grayslake North and went the distance on the mound for the win, striking out six.
Libertyville 16, Lake Forest 1: Evan Skoug homered and Joey Eichmann doubled for the Wildcats (17-12).
Dar Townsend was the winner.
Antioch 10, North Chicago 0: Emery Paramski went 3-for-4 with an RBI and earned the win, allowing 2 hits over 5 innings and striking out five.
Buffalo Grove 10, Prospect 9: Wild might be an understated way of summing up Buffalo Grove’s Mid-Suburban East baseball visit to Prospect on Tuesday afternoon.
BG never trailed but Prospect tied it on a 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh at Larry Pohlman Field.
The Bison the scored the tie-breaking run in the top of the eighth on a walk and three batters getting hit by pitches with two outs as they held on for a 10-9 victory.
Jimmy Pinakidis, Ryan Nisbet (3-for-3) and Andrew Van Wazer were all hit to force in the go-ahead run for BG (14-15, 9-6). Dan Recht got the victory as he pitched a scoreless eighth after leaving the bases loaded in the seventh.
BG took a 9-7 lead in the top of the seventh on the fourth homer of the year by Nisbet. The senior outfielder also doubled, tripled and drove in 3 runs.
But an error in the bottom of the seventh set Brian Bauer’s game-tying 2-run blast for the Knights, who clinched the East title Monday.
Jake Monson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Kevin Tennenbaum also homered as BG also had leads of 3-0 and 8-3. Shane Joyce doubled twice for Prospect.
St. Viator 7, DeLaSalle 5: Sophomore Gunnar Kay got the victory and Cory Kay and Nick Prazuch tripled for St. Viator (17-12) in the nonconference game.
Boys volleyball
Prospect earned a tough, two-game victory over Hoffman Estates by scores of 25-23, 27-25 in Mid-Suburban League crossover action Tuesday night.
Jimmy Muzzillo led the Knights (15-18, 4-6) with 8 kills, while Andrew Busse had 5 and Pat McIlwee added 5 kills to go with 16 assists. James Daughty had 2 service aces. For the Hawks, Victor Lugo had 8 kills.
