Hersey recovers; Palatine tops Conant
Less than 24 hours after battling Lake County powerhouse Stevenson in a tough two-set loss, Hersey’s girls volleyball team bounced back in its own Ken Carter Gymnasium on Tuesday night for a 25-18, 25-8 victory over visiting Wheeling.
With seniors Ann Mullen-Muhr (14-of-14) and Erica Hill (9-of-9) each putting down 8 kills, the Huskies improved to 4-0 in the Mid-Suburban East and 9-3 overall.
It was the 790th career win for Huskies girls volleyball coach Nancy Lill.
Sophomore Gabriella Olhava added 3 kills in the Hersey attack which was set by senior Abby Fesl (39-of-41), who handed out 19 assists and collected 6 digs.
Taylor Schill (15 digs) and Allie Mueller (10) paced the back row against the Wildcats (5-7, 0-4).
Palatine d. Conant: Palatine (8-2) improved to 3-1 in the MSL West with a 25-21, 25-13 triumph in Hoffman Estates.
The Cougars (5-7, 1-3) were led on attack by Jenn Donnell (7 kills), who was also 11-of-12 on serve receive.
Taylor Levitt was 12-of-14 serve receiving for the Cougars while teammate Sarah Manczko was 6-of-6 serving with an ace.
Fremd d. Schaumburg: Fremd (10-2, 4-0) remained perfect in the MSL West with a 26-24, 25-20 victory over the visiting Saxons (5-5, 2-2).
Sophomore Lane Hindenburg (11 kills), senior Nicole Obos (5) and sophomore Maisie Koo (3) led the Vikes attack set by senior Marilyn Lortz (45-of-46, 18 assists).
Fremd senior Nina Scott was 9-of-9 serving with 4 digs and 14-of-14 serve receiving.
Barrington d. Hoffman Estates: Lauren Shechtman (10 kills), Julia Thompson (4) and Megan Talbot (4) led the attack for Barrington (7-5, 2-2) in a 25-23, 25-16 triumph over the visiting Hawks (3-9, 0-4).
Claire Waliczek handed out 19 assists for the winners while teammate Emily Casaletto served 4 aces with 7 digs.
Rolling Meadows d. Elk Grove: Host Rolling Meadows (6-6, 2-2) earned a 16-25, 25-19, 29-27 victory as senior Rachel Mickey (27-of-29, 12 kills), senior Morgan Keller (22-of-24, 9 kills) and junior Lauren Sokolowski (15-of-18, 6 kills) led the Mustangs’ attack.
Jenny Vliet (17 assist) and Sami Kay (8) set the attack for RM.
Christian Liberty d. IMSA: Beth Cunningham (6 kills) and Rachel Freeman (3) led CLA in a 25-13, 16-25, 32-30 victory over visiting Illinois Math & Science.
Harper d. Milwaukee Area Technical: The Hawks won 25-1, 25-6, 25-3 as Alyse Kolner (5 kills), Erinn Hellweg (5), Sarah House (4), Rebekah Hischke (4) and Valerie Bazemore (3) led the attack.
Hellweg (19-19) served 11 aces while Sam Wallenberg (9 assists), Hellweg (7) and Bazemore (6) handled the setting chores.
