Call it a good feelin’ for Grant Heelan.
The Mundelein senior fired an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors, and three of his teammates also broke 40, as the Mustangs shot a 149 in a victory over Wauconda (190) at Steeple Chase Golf Golf Club in Mundelein Tuesday.
The Mustangs also got matching 37s from Derek Parola and John Lentz, while Bret Cigelnik added a 39.
Wauconda was led by sophomore Annette Yandall, who played from the same tees as the boys and shot a 45. Competing in the girls Class 2A regional last fall, she earned a sectional berth.
Grayslake North d. Woodstock: At Renwood Golf Course, seniors Sam Stanfel and Ryan Kirkpatrick each shot a 3-over 39 to share medalist honors, as the host Knights (166) got a victory over Woodstock (175).
Grayslake North also received a 43 from junior Scott Wonsil and a 45 from senior Anthony Harrop.
Lake Forest d. Vernon Hills: At Lake Bluff Golf Club, the host Scouts shot a 147 to post an 11-stroke win over Vernon Hills.
Ian Mankoff and Drew Barrett led Lake Forest with 36s, while Drew Takacs carded a 37 and Jack Barrie a 38.
Eric Swanson (38) and Connor Dickman (39) broke 40 for Vernon Hills (158).
Zion-Benton d. Grant: At Shepherd’s Crook, Justin Schwab was medalist with an even-par 36 for the host Zee-Bees in their 166-191 win.
Grant was led by Cody Volpe’s 44 and Austin Basala’s 46.
Warren d. Antioch: At Bittersweet Golf Club, Woo-Sang Shim’s 38 led the host Blue Devils, whose 165 edged the Sequoits by one stroke.
Warren also received a 41 from Mike Balla, a 42 from Chris Oberto and a 44 from Kyle Kane.
Briley Schultz shot a 38 for Antioch, and Grant Smith had a 39. Schultz tied Shim for medalist honors.
