Ressler, Antioch pin loss on Marian Central
Kaylene Ressler did more than just pound the softball Tuesday.
Antioch’s junior third baseman belted 2 homers and drove in 6 runs, leading the Sequoits to a 17-2 nonconference win over host Marian Central in Woodstock.
“She had a great game in the field, as well,” coach Anthony Rocco said.
Katie Keefe also homered for Antioch (14-9) and earned the win in the circle. Keefe allowed 3 hits and struck out three in the five-inning game. The Sequoits got doubles from Amber Mysliwiec and Jessica Pedersen.
Vernon Hills 11, Round Lake 1: Jordyn Comitor went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, and Megan Meline threw a 1-hitter over 6 innings in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Meline and Jenn Claussen (2 doubles) both went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs for Vernon Hills (14-6, 6-1).
Grayslake North 3, Crystal Lake South 2: Winning pitcher Kristina Gandy and Courtney Peterson both went 2-for-3 with an RBI, leading the first-place Knights to the Fox Valley Conference win.
Grayslake North (13-7-1, 6-0) also got a double from Kelsey Borders. Marli Kram was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Gandy had 8 strikeouts.
Zion-Benton 7, Stevenson 5: The Patriots led the North Suburban Lake game 5-0 after three innings, but the visiting Zee-Bees scored twice in the fourth, four times in the fifth and once in the sixth.
Lara Horwitz doubled and tripled for Stevenson (5-15), and Cailin Rubenstein had 2 hits, scored a run and drove one in. She also hustled to catch a ball down the right-field line and then threw to Nicole Alesi to double the runner off second base, completing a 9-4 double play.
“That was a real heady play on her part,” coach Larry Friedrichs said of Rubenstein.
Zion-Benton 5, Stevenson 4: In the completion of the April 2 game that was suspended after seven innings with the score tied 7-7, Carson Manning’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Zee-Bees.
Stevenson had threatened in the top of the eighth with runners on second and third and one out.
Lakes 5, Wauconda 4: Jamie Dykstra was 4-for-4 with 3 doubles and a triple for the host Eagles in the North Suburban Prairie game.
Lakes also received doubles from Sara Braden, Megan Massie and Marisa Thackston.
Mundelein 8, Lake Forest 1: Hailey Morelli doubled three times, and freshman Maria DeVito homered for the Mustangs in the North Suburban Lake contest.
Morelli and Chloe Peterson (2 runs, RBI) each went 3-for-4 for Mundelein (7-10, 3-3). DeVito had a single, as well, and 2 RBI. Erin Kennelly earned the complete-game win.
