More than 80 students from Schaumburg-Palatine High School District 211 attended a new event at Harper College Thursday called the Student Leadership Challenge Experience.
The all-day event was created to help the students develop critical thinking, professional etiquette and ethics skills and encourage them to take on leadership roles.
Throughout the day, the students met with some of Harper’s student leaders and were encouraged to complete weekly leadership assignments and return in the fall for more leadership training.
“We want them to realize they all have leadership potential that can be developed and practiced to bring about positive change,” student activities coordinator Chris George said in a statement.
The event was a spinoff of the Harper Leadership Challenge, which is a similar program for Harper students. That program is based on the popular book “The Leadership Challenge” by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner.
