Schulewitz (5-0), Mundelein keep winning
Mundelein’s baseball team scored the only run it needed for ace Mitch Schulewitz in the fourth thanks to an error and then added 3 in the fifth, as the Mustangs shut out visiting Warren 4-0 Tuesday.
Schulewitz (5-0) went the distance, striking out 10, as Mundelein improved to 14-0 and 4-0 in the North Suburban Lake.
Derek Parola had a 2-run single, and Luke Adams contributed an RBI single.
Prairie Ridge 12, Grayslake Central 6: The visiting Rams tried to match runs with the Wolves early, but 7 walks and 6 errors led to a Fox Valley Conference loss.
“You can’t give any team six extra outs, especially a team that swings it like Ridge,” Grayslake Central coach Troy Whalen said. “We are having a hard time overcoming mistakes on all fronts, starting with myself. Hopefully, a couple of days of practice can help us fix some things.”
Matt Loeffl had 3 hits and Kyle Balling belted a double for Grayslake Central.
Antioch 6, Lakes 4: In the North Suburban Prairie contest between crosstown rivals, the visiting Sequoits rallied from a 3-0 deficit by scoring 4 runs in the fourth and adding solo marks in the fifth and seventh innings.
Senior ace David Meade threw 6 innings, striking out 11 and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) for Antioch (4-3, 1-0). Matt DeJong paced the Sequoits’ offense, going 3-for-4. Sam Smithson was 2-for-2 with a walk and 3 runs scored, and Mitch Everett went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Lakes (2-10, 0-3) got a double from Joe Sisk and a single and 2 RBI from Ryan Burnett.
Grant 2, McHenry 1: Doug Murphey improved to 3-0, going the distance on the mound in the nonconference game.
Grant (9-3) was led offensively by Jordan Villarreal (1-for-2, sacrifice fly, triple), Brent Spohr (1-for-3, RBI) and Tyler Gorski (1-for-3, double).
Wauconda 10, Round Lake 0: James Holub dominated on the mound, and Brandon Gibis was 2-for-3 with a double for the host Bulldogs in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Holub allowed just 1 hit and struck out 12 in a five-inning complete game.
Vernon Hills 26, North Chicago 0: Twelve different Cougars had hits in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Pat Crowley earned the win and doubled in the five-inning contest.
