Mundelein’s Fairweather: Fantastic
Lauren Fairweather’s softball bat was hot in cool weather.
Fairweather hit a pair fair and over the fence at Mundelein, as her 2 home runs highlighted the host Mustangs’ 18-0 win over Round Lake in a North Suburban Conference crossover Thursday.
Maria DeVito also homered for Mundelein (4-1), which scored 14 runs in the first inning. Maddie Zazas hit 2 doubles, Haley Morelli also doubled, and Chloe Peterson stole 4 bases.
“We hit the ball well,” said coach Brett Wilhelm, whose Mustangs pounded out 16 hits. “We were just building off (Wednesday’s) big win over Palatine.”
Erin Kennelly earned the complete-game win, striking out five and allowing 3 hits in 5 innings.
Wauconda 18, Lake Forest 8: Alex Kinnamon earned high fives, going 5-for-5 in the North Suburban Conference crossover, as the Bulldogs pulled out a come-from-behind win for the second time this week.
Wauconda (6-1), which won its sixth in a row, came from behind to beat Grant on Tuesday.
Kinnamon had 4 singles and a triple, and the senior also scored three times. Maggie LePage was 4-for-5 with a double and 4 runs scored for the Bulldogs, who trailed 3-0 after one inning and 4-3 after three. They then exploded for 7 runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.
Paige Motley went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 runs for Wauconda, and freshman Brooke Sefcik had a triple as well.
Lexie Redmann earned the win, and freshman Kayla Wedl picked up the save.
Grant 4, Libertyville 0: Jamie Reiser doubled twice and knocked in 3 runs, and Caitlin Moran struck out nine in a complete-game shutout, as the visiting Bulldogs won the North Suburban Conference crossover.
Grant (2-2) scored 3 runs in the first inning. Moran helped her own cause with a pair of hits in the game.
Libertyville got hits from Margaret Haws, Jamie Stevens, Madi Dembinski and Haley Alban.
Antioch 13, Stevenson 7: Jessica Pedersen went 4-for-5 and Katie Phillips was 3-for-3 for the visiting Sequoits in the North Suburban crossover.
Pedersen, Phillips and Jessica Tyrell all doubled, while Phillips had a triple, as well. Tyrell and Sage Keyes each had 2 RBI for Antioch (4-1). Taylor Schiltz made big plays in left field, as she sparkled defensively for the second straight day.
Phillips earned the win in relief.
Stevenson (0-3) scored six times in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead, but Antioch plated 11 runs over the final three innings. The Patriots got 2-hit games from Taylor Koenigs (2 runs, RBI), Abby O’Connor (2 RBI) and Jordan Cortesi (run).
Carmel 8, Resurrection 3: Freshman Amanda Elert hit her second home run of the season and also doubled for the Corsairs.
Jenny Behan and Amy Abel also had 2 hits for Carmel. Mia Dicara had a double and pitched 5 innings for the win, striking out four and allowing 2 runs, both of which were unearned.
Zion-Benton 5, Lakes 3: Kate Hohenstatt did all she could to give the Eagles a boost in the North Suburban crossover, but her 3-for-3 effort was not enough.
Meghan Milewski’s single scored Hohenstatt to give Lakes a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Zion-Benton answered with a pair of runs in its half of the inning. Milewski finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
