Lake County Model Railroad Club's Fall Open House: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22, Lake County Model Railroad club, 107 S. Main St., two blocks north of Route 176, Wauconda. Get a taste of model railroading as a hobby and view the club's permanent operating model railroad - occupying more than 1,500 square feet. Admission is free. DAR essay contest: The Twenty-first Star Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution announce its annual American History Essay Contest. All students, fifth-eighth grade are eligible. The 2009-2010 topic is "The Completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad." Deadline submission is Tuesday, Dec. 1. This league goes from August to May with a $25 payment every month per couple.
