Indoor Maze: Wildfire, the high school youth group of CrossView Church in Antioch, will sponsor a family-friendly InDoor Maze in the church gym, 750 Highview Drive. This is an alternative Halloween activity with more than 3,200 square feet of tunnels, trap doors, slides, platforms, black lights and other surprises. The lights are left on during the afternoon hours for families and small children. However, at 6 p.m. the lights go off and the challenge turns on for those who dare to tunnel through in the dark. Dinner and Bake Auction: The Federated Church of Wauconda, 200 S. Barrington Road, Wauconda, will have its annual Fall Dinner & Bake Auction on at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Spaghetti dinner: Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church, 5725 Stearns School Road, Gurnee, will have its annual spaghetti dinner from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. The all-you-can-eat meal includes spaghetti, salad, dessert and a beverage. Bake sale items, wine and soda may be purchased separately. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and children ages 3-12 and $6 for take out.

Family concert: Dan Nichols, one of the most popular and influential Jewish musicians in North America, presents a family concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield.
Book discussion: Temple Jeremiah congregant Ruth Adler will lead a discussion of The New York Times best-seller "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant" at 10 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 25, at Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield. This first-person narrative tells the story of Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph, a talented midwife and feminist. All are welcome to attend.

Support for adoptive families: In October, Celebration! Childcare will be starting a Support Group for Adoptive Families. The intent is to lend a little support to community families during the adoption transition and give the opportunity for all to benefit from the use of some hands-on shared experiences to form a support network. Film: Enjoy a thought-provoking evening when Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield, airs the controversial film "Forgiving Dr. Mengele" at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1. The movie centers around a shocking act of forgiveness by Auschwitz survivor Eva Mozes Kor and the firestorm of criticism it created. Award-winning filmmaker Bob Hercules will lead a discussion following the movie. Hear the "behind-the-scenes" stories of this award-winning movie.

Judaism on One Foot: Are you interested in learning more about the Jewish religion? Temple Jeremiah's Rabbi Paul Cohen, Rabbi Michelle Greenberg and Education Director Dr. Anne Lidsky are offering an overview and introduction to Jewish origins, rituals and beliefs during a series of programs titled "Judaism on One Foot" at 9 a.m. Mondays, now through Nov. 16, at Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield. The classes will include text study, discussion and lecture-style learning and are open to anyone who wants to learn more about Judaism. Meals for the starving: Holy Cross Lutheran Church is coordinating an effort of more than 5,000 community members of all ages to package one million life-saving meals for starving children around the world during an event Dec. 4-6 at the new Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake. Through a partnership of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Minnesota-based Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), volunteers will package specially-designed meals that provide the key nutrients a starving child needs to survive and thrive. FMSC will distribute these meals to orphanages, clinics, relief centers and schools in more than 60 countries in the developing world. Holy Cross Lutheran Church is seeking volunteers to help at this event. Two-hour packing sessions, each beginning with a brief orientation and overview of FMSC's work around the world, will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, with the last day's session beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Friday Friends: Friday Friends has been organized within The Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church in Mundelein for the purpose of fun and fellowship. The group meets the second Friday of the month, each time at different members' homes. For details, call (847) 949-8670.
Recycling: On the third Sunday of each month, youth will man the recycle bin between services from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and after 11 a.m. Bring your old newspapers, junk mail and catalogs. Youth will be ready to assist with the unloading of your car as you drive up to the bin in the Grace parking lot. The recycle bin is in place on a daily basis. A portion of the cash credits for all paper donations will be used toward a green gift for the community. For seniors: The senior group, The Primetimers, meets at The Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church in Mundelein the fourth Monday of the month for refreshments, book studies and guest speakers.
