Music for a Sunday Afternoon: Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church will present a concert featuring Ron Lemke on organ and Carol Eads on piano at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. They will play the music of Bach and Mozart with piano and organ arrangements by John Innes and Bill Fazik. Food pantry: H. Dennis Smith, executive director of the Northern Illinois Food Bank, will be a guest speaker at Community Protestant Church, United Church of Christ, on Sunday, Nov. 1 at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. The NIFB distributes food to 520 pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens in 13 northern Illinois counties. Community Protestant Church is located at 418 N. Prairie in Mundelein. Film: Enjoy a thought-provoking evening when Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield, airs the controversial film "Forgiving Dr. Mengele" at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1. The movie centers around a shocking act of forgiveness by Auschwitz survivor Eva Mozes Kor and the firestorm of criticism it created. Award-winning filmmaker Bob Hercules will lead a discussion following the movie. Hear the "behind-the-scenes" stories of this award-winning movie.

Nov. 5

Jewish Learning Institute: The Jewish Learning Institute is opening a new branch in Gurnee. The JLI, which has more than 300 locations worldwide, was created to address the needs of Jews for in-depth Jewish knowledge. The program begins with "SoulQuest" in November, continues with "Portraits in Leadership" in March and concludes with "Beyond Never Again" in April. This sequence is designed to provide a deeper understanding and appreciation of Jewish thought, heritage, and tradition, and enables students to achieve basic Jewish literacy as well as an understanding of cardinal Jewish beliefs and observances. "SoulQuest," which explores the double mystery of life and death, will be held six consecutive Thursday evenings beginning Nov. 5 at the Chabad Jewish Center, 5101 Washington St., in Gurnee. Worldview Conference: Dr. Frank Turek, author of "I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist," will present four teaching segments on why we can know truth, know that God exists, that miracles of God do exist, and the veracity of the New Testament in a conference from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Crossroads Church, 1350 State Route 137, Grayslake. A Country Christmas: St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 24500 N. Crafters needed: The Annunciation of Our Lady craft fair is coming from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at 5725 Stearns School Road, Gurnee Setup will begin at 7 a.m., where there will be complementary coffee and bakery items. Party and craft fair: St. Mark Lutheran Church will host a Holiday Home Party and Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. Admission is free. Vendors include Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Lia Sophia, Usborne books, and more. Craft items include silk floral arrangements and wreaths to handmade afghans, woodworking, and more. Judaism on One Foot: Are you interested in learning more about the Jewish religion? Temple Jeremiah's Rabbi Paul Cohen, Rabbi Michelle Greenberg and Education Director Dr. Anne Lidsky are offering an overview and introduction to Jewish origins, rituals and beliefs during a series of programs titled "Judaism on One Foot" at 9 a.m. Mondays, now through Nov. 16, at Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield. The classes will include text study, discussion and lecture-style learning and are open to anyone who wants to learn more about Judaism. Dec. 4

Meals for the starving: Holy Cross Lutheran Church is coordinating an effort of more than 5,000 community members of all ages to package one million lifesaving meals for starving children around the world during an event Dec. 4-6 at the new Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake. Through a partnership of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Minnesota-based Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), volunteers will package specially-designed meals that provide the key nutrients a starving child needs to survive and thrive. FMSC will distribute these meals to orphanages, clinics, relief centers and schools in more than 60 countries in the developing world. Holy Cross Lutheran Church is seeking volunteers to help at this event. Two-hour packing sessions, each beginning with a brief orientation and overview of FMSC's work around the world, will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, with the last day's session beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Youth group: The Junior and Senior High Youth Groups of Community Protestant Church, United Church of Christ, in Mundelein will meet Sunday evenings this fall. Junior High Youth will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. the second and fourth Sundays, while Senior High Youth meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. the first and third Sundays. Services in Spanish: Church of the Holy Family/Sagrada Familia (Episcopal) in Lake Villa offers services in Spanish at 5 p.m. Sundays. Thrift Shop is open 9 to noon Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. $2 bag sale last Saturday each month. Donations are welcome.

Friday Friends: Friday Friends has been organized within The Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church in Mundelein for the purpose of fun and fellowship. The group meets the second Friday of the month, each time at different members' homes. For details, call (847) 949-8670.

Recycling: On the third Sunday of each month, youth will man the recycle bin between services from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and after 11 a.m. Bring your old newspapers, junk mail and catalogs. Youth will be ready to assist with the unloading of your car as you drive up to the bin in the Grace parking lot. The recycle bin is in place on a daily basis. A portion of the cash credits for all paper donations will be used toward a green gift for the community. For seniors: The senior group, The Primetimers, meets at The Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church in Mundelein the fourth Monday of the month for refreshments, book studies and guest speakers.
