Antioch tops Lakes
Antioch's girls volleyball team came to play Wednesday night.
Lauren Grant had 7 kills and 13 digs, as the Sequoits topped Lakes 25-16, 25-16 in a North Suburban Prairie match.
Jessica Ploss and Erica Lubkeman added 7 and 6 kills, respectively, for Antioch (7-5, 2-1), while Savana Bailey lofted 13 assists. Lubkeman also had 12 digs and 4 aces.
"We played one of our better matches of the season, with only 4 service errors," Sequoits coach Glen Heitman said. "Our outside hitters, Lauren Grant and Erica Lubkeman, had great matches. Jessica Ploss controlled the net, getting kills on numerous over-passes. Savana Bailey and Kendall Padgett (9 assists) ran the offense very well."
Lakes (5-8, 1-3) received a pair of kills from Ashley Sodt. Kailey Molloy was 18-of-18 setting with 8 assists.
"Same story, different night," Eagles coach Carla Thompson said. "We don't start off playing aggressively and it gets us in trouble. Give Antioch credit - they beat us. They put the ball where we weren't getting to it. We were missing blocks because we were not getting up soon enough on their quick hitting."
Lake Zurich d. Lake Forest: Amanda Orchard had 7 kills and 7 blocks for the Bears in their 28-26, 25-15 win.
Brittany Murawski added 6 kills for Lake Zurich (11-4, 2-0 North Suburban Lake). Audrey Bauer chipped in 6 blocks, 3 aces and 2 kills.
The Bears' Alexis Hartman and Monica Kloep dished out 10 and 7 assists, respectively.
Mundelein d. Stevenson: Michelle Parssinen had 8 kills and 2 aces, as the Mustangs captured a 25-19, 25-19 decision in North Suburban Lake action.
Brittany Jones contributed 6 kills for Mundelein (13-5, 2-2), and Megan Barron had 15 digs, 4 kills and 3 blocks. The Mustangs also got 4 kills from Brittany Busscher and 20 assists from setter Kelsey Sullivan.
Stevenson (7-7, 2-2) was led by Rachel Baader (4 kills, 9 digs, 2 aces), Amber Hughes (10 digs, 2 aces), Carlee Berlans (3 kills) and Mackenzie Kurth (3 kills). Maggie Lundstrom was 36-of-36 setting with 7 assists, and Anastasia Borozenets had 5 blocks (2 solo).
Libertyville d. Warren: Mackenzie Haws, Leah Kruckman and Paige Hopper combined for 7 blocks, as the Wildcats won 25-14, 25-16 in their "Volley for a Cure" match.
Alanna Connors slammed a team-best 5 kills for Libertyville (6-3, 2-1 North Suburban Lake).
Kristen Webb and McKenzie O'Brien each had 9 kills in the win, while Cindy Zhou served 4 aces. Megan Friedman hammerd 4 kills.
The LHS program raised well over $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation from this match.
Grant d. Round Lake: The Bulldogs won the North Suburban Lake match 25-17, 25-22, as Becca McMullin pounded 9 kills and posted 2 blocks.
Sophia Trbojevich lofted 18 assists and served 2 aces. Erin Beskow chipped in 7 digs and 2 aces.
