New deacons: Francis Cardinal George, archbishop of Chicago, has ordained 15 men as new, permanent deacons. The Diaconate ordination took place on Sunday, May 24, at Queen of All Saints Basilica in Chicago. The following were ordained and will serve at local parishes: Jeremy N. Summer schedule: Grace Lutheran Church's summer worship schedule for June is as follows: Sunday worship is at 9:30 a.m., with traditional services held the first and third Sundays of each month. Contemporary worship services are held the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Summer Promiseland will be held each Sunday following the children's message. Nursery care will be available during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Holy Communion is offered on the first and second Sundays of the month. Coffee Fellowship is open to all following worship. On Sunday, June 21, there will be a special worship service to celebrate vacation Bible school with a celebration to follow worship in Café Grace. Advance directives: Community Connection, a new informational program for residents in Lake, McHenry, and northern Cook counties, will hold its first meeting on Friday, June 12, at the "Chapel on the Lake," 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road in Fox Lake. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. with coffee and pastry followed by a brief program. The program for June is "The 5 Wishes - Advance Directives & What You Need to Know" with guest speaker Chaplain Jodie Futornick, of the pastoral care department at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Chaplain Futornick will speak about Advance Directives, the Durable Power of Attorney, and the Health Care Proxy. A question and answer time will follow her presentation. Handbell concert: Rezound! The premier handbell ensemble will be at Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church, 5725 Stearns School Road, Gurnee, at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 13. The group will blend the unique timbres of English handbells, Petit & Fritzen bells, handchimes and White Chapel bells. Clothes for the needy: Clothing in sizes ranging from infant to size 16 boys and girls is available the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Episcopal Church's Elijah's Mantle for Children in Need community service project, 31 Park Ave., Grayslake. Next dates are: June 13, July 11, Aug. 8, Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. There is no cost. Vacation Bible school: Grace Lutheran Church will offer "SonRock Kids Camp" vacation Bible school the week of June 15-19, 1-4 p.m. The program is open to all children, ages 3 years old (potty-trained) to those entering fourth grade in the fall. Program costs are $15 per child ($45 family limit) for those who preregister and $20 per child walk-in registration fee. Learn about congregation: Congregation Or Shalom invites anyone interested in learning more about the congregation and its offerings to attend the Or Shalom Young Children's service at 6 p.m. Friday, June 19, or the regular Friday night service at 7:30 p.m. Rabbi Scott Looper will be leading the services and will be available to answer any questions. School registrations for students in preschool and older are now being accepted for the 2009-2010 school year. Contact Marcia Cohen to register. Food drive: Community Protestant Church in Mundelein is holding a communitywide food drive from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 20. The Caring by Sharing Food Drive will benefit local food pantries. People can drop off nonperishable food items, paper products, or household cleaning items at the Community Protestant Church parking lot, 418 N. Prairie Ave., Mundelein. June 21

Connecting: Conscious Connection Group will continue to meet at 5 p.m. the first and third Sundays of the month at Jonathan's Portrait Studio, 1310 S. Milwaukee Road, Vernon Hills. However, there will not be a meeting the first Sunday in June. The next meeting will be June 21.

Vacation Bible school: St. Lawrence Episcopal Church invites all children to attend vacation Bible school this summer. Camp EDGE: Experience, Discover God Everywhere is an extreme adventure camp taking kids on exciting Bible treks to experience and discover God everywhere, every day. July 20

Day camp: Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 29700 N. St. Mary's Road, Libertyville, will hold a day camp for first to fifth grades from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the week of July 20-24. The five daily themes will help campers explore Scriptures that help them to see themselves as freed, created, called, saved and sent to serve. Registration forms are available in the church. Vacation Bible school: Holy Cross vacation Bible school for Preschoolers (ages 3-5) will be held the week of July 20 -24. "Son Rock" for preschoolers, will begin at 9 a.m. each day and end at 11:15 a.m. The adventure will include opening worship, stories and activities, arts and crafts, and more. Registration and health forms are available in the church office or at holycrosschurch.org. The fee for vacation Bible school is $35 per child, with a family discount of $30 per child with two or more registrations. The church is located at 29700 N. St. Mary's Road in Libertyville.

Friday Friends: Friday Friends has been organized within The Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church in Mundelein for the purpose of fun and fellowship. The group meets the second Friday of the month, each time at different members' homes. For details, call (847) 949-8670.

Recycling: On the third Sunday of each month, youth will man the recycle bin between services, from 9:30 to 10 a.m., and after the second service, after 11 a.m. Bring your old newspapers, junk mail and catalogs. Youth will be ready to assist with the unloading of your car as you drive up to the bin in the Grace parking lot. The recycle bin is in place on a daily basis, so come any time that is convenient for you. A portion of the cash credits for all paper donations will be used toward a green gift for the community. Grief support group: Faith Lutheran Church announces the formation of a GriefShare Support Group, which provides support for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. For seniors: The senior group, The Primetimers, meets at The Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church in Mundelein the fourth Monday of the month for refreshments, book studies and guest speakers.
