Carol Stream to host a Pumpkin, Textiles and Electronics Recycling Event Nov. 6
The Village of Carol Stream is partnering with eWorks, SCARCE, Flood Brothers Disposal, and DuPage County to host a Pumpkin, Textiles and Electronics Recycling Event.
This event, open to residents and non-residents, will be Saturday, Nov. 6, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Water Reclamation Center, 245 Kuhn Road.
To keep everyone safe from COVID-19, they are asking participants to remain in their car and allow volunteers to unload the recyclables. Please do not drop off recyclables before or after the event.
By recycling pumpkins you reduce the methane released from landfills and return important nutrients to the soil. Please remove any decorative additions like wax, yarn, and googly eyes to make the pumpkins safe for composting.
For the first time we are accepting non-soiled, bagged textiles (clothes/blankets) and shoes. Textiles will either be reused or made into rags, insulation, packing material, or carpeting.
While most qualifying electronics will be recycled for free, there is a fee for televisions and monitors.
The fees per unit are $25 for under 21-inch screen; or $35 for over 21-inch screen.
Prepay online at recycling.eworksesi.org. Checks are not accepted.
The accepted electronics include: computers, laptops, servers, computer monitors, televisions, printers, facsimile, scanners, VCR and DVD players, video game consoles, cell phones, cable & converter boxes, satellite receivers, keyboards, holiday string lights, wires, and small household appliances such as microwaves, toasters, and vacuums.
Electronics that are not accepted are: DVDs, video and audio cassettes; large home appliances/white goods, i.e. stoves, washing machines, refrigerators, freezers; air conditioners; dehumidifiers; large stereo speakers (extra-large wooden-box speakers); or batteries.
They also do not accept hazardous waste, such as mercury-containing devices, thermostats, thermometers, smoke detectors, liquids and gases, fluorescent tubes and lightbulbs.
