Lisa Fisher Named Finalist in WGN-TV's Remarkable Women Contest

The Antioch Traveling Closet's (ATC) founder and president Lisa Fisher has been nominated for WGN-TV's 2020 Remarkable Women Contest for the Chicagoland area. Additionally, Fisher has been named a finalist in the event for Chicagoland, one of only four women out of 300-plus other nominees to be so honored.

The ATC's mission is to make sure that no child, adult, or senior citizen is without basic items that can otherwise be taken for granted. Items as simple as a toothbrush and toothpaste are a blessing for some families. The charitable organization collects donated items from the community such as new or very gently used clothing, shoes and boots, hats, gloves, toiletries, and school supplies. These items are then distributed to needy area residents, free of charge, at giveaway events held three times annually.

Last month, WGN-TV news anchor Erin Ivory contacted Fisher to let her know of the double distinction. Ivory and a video crew later visited the Antioch Senior Center, scene of the ATC giveaways, to interview Fisher and ATC treasurer Heather Lewis. The Remarkable Women contest is part of a nationwide initiative to honor the influence that women have had on public policy, social progress, and the quality of life. Fisher is competing against the three other finalists in the Chicago regional portion of the contest. The winner amongst the four will be announced in the first week of March, the start of International Women's Month, and will receive an all-expense-paid trip to New York City to appear on the Mel Robbins Show. The competition there continues amongst other regional winners for the national title of Remarkable Woman of 2020.
