Palatine Farmers' Market Celebrates its 28th year May 4th
The Palatine Farmers' Market opens its 28th Summer Season Saturday, May 4, with the Winston Campus Mariachi Band celebrating Cinco de Mayo-a great time to enjoy tacos, tamales, mangos and more authentic Mexican fare from Tamales Express. Greet your favorite vendors along with some new top quality additions.
The Palatine Farmers' Market is open every Saturday morning in the Train Station parking lot, May-October, from 7 AM to 1 PM offering produce direct from the farmers. We require that the produce be picked within 24 hours of the Market--fresher than you can find at the store. The atmosphere is friendly with local musicians, children's activities, and civic groups.
The local produce vendors include one certified organic, one using organic practices, two traditional. Meeting the farmer every Saturday morning, you can learn about the products from seed to harvest. Our Michigan fruit vendor brings a wide variety of apples, peaches, plums, apricots, berries and cherries and spring asparagus and rhubarb. Weekly and bi-monthly CSA's are available.
We have two meat farmers who tend the animals themselves-Scott Hasselmann grows organic feed for the free-range animals on his organic farm without hormones or antibiotics. He brings fresh eggs straight from the chicken. Barb with the Little Bison Co. brings all cuts of highest quality bison meat, other varieties, pheasant pies and Amish butter, eggs and more. Both bring fresh eggs. For surf and turf, add Bobby's Soft Wave Fish Co. wild salmon, white fish, shrimp, scallops and favorite smoked whitefish and salmon and fish spreads.
For your kitchen knives, visit Dave Is Sharp for knife sharpening and more. He and wife Amanda sharpen anything-garden tools, paper cutters, even mower blades. 'Tis the season!
Kathy of Celebrate Gardens grows all her own flowers for a colorful array that can't be found elsewhere. Every week she has a bright flower for each child at the Market. Our honey is from a local apiary just two miles from the Market. Garlic Underground brings 4 varieties of garlic, ginger, and micro-greens. Mimi knows the best garlic for your menu. And, dogs guide their masters to Maggie's Munchies for the best natural treats for all types of pets.
We also offer handmade soaps, lotions, salves, creams, ointments and naturally effective bug spray. We have homemade pies, cookies, pickles, pet treats, flowers, jellies and salsa. Cheese mongers bring select varieties from small cheese makers in Wisconsin.
Jim prepares mini donuts on site; Jake grills cheese sandwiches and Raul serves authentic tamales, tacos, fresh mangos, and Mexican style corn on the cob. Sweet C's has decorated treats and a delicious assortment of homemade cookies.
The Katic family bakes a variety of whole wheat, sourdough and French breads, croissants, English muffins and more each Saturday morning prior to coming to our Market. The Palatine Farmers' Market offers products that are not available in grocery stores; customers buy direct from the farmer, the baker and the producer. We are unique that way.
