March 28: CLC hosts Get Connected vendor fair for local and disadvantaged business enterprises

The College of Lake County will host a Get Connected vendor fair for local and disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) from 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday, March 28 at the Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Rd. in North Chicago.

Over the next two years, CLC will build $45 million in campus improvements involving major purchases of goods and services beyond the college's normal business needs. This will include a $40 million expansion of the Lakeshore (Waukegan) Campus, based on funding from the state Capital Development Board. "The Get Connected vendor fair will provide details on all of the procurement opportunities at CLC and how a company can become a vendor for the college," said Michele Reynolds, the college's director of purchasing and contracts.

CLC President Lori Suddick, Ed.D., said, "At the College of Lake County, our highest priorities are advancing student success and strengthening the diverse communities we serve. Part of that mission involves creating strong ties to our local communities and engaging local businesses to further our growth. We look forward to meeting with members of the community at the Get Connected fair as we create new synergies and relationships."

In addition, attendees will learn about the College's annual purchasing spend on various goods and services, which totals approximately $25 million. These opportunities are available in facilities, from solar panels to masonry and flashing repair, and in other areas, including information technology, professional services (such as athletic trainer) and commodity services, ranging from fire protection testing to media buying.

"With campus upgrades, we're investing in our students' future and in the vitality of the Lake County community," Reynolds added.

DBEs are for-profit small businesses for which socially and economically disadvantaged individuals own at least a 51 percent interest and also control management and daily business operations.

The college purchases required goods and services in conformance with Illinois state law, state regulations, the Illinois Public Community College Act and related policies and procedures as

adopted and approved by the CLC Board of Trustees. Purchases in excess of $25,000 are publicly advertised in accordance with formal bidding procedures.
