Local Scouts earn Marine Corps League Good Citizenship Award
On June 2, the McHenry County Marine Corps League Detachment 1009 presented "Good Citizenship Awards" to three local area Scouts at the Nunda Township building in Crystal Lake.
These Scouts had achieved years-long aspirations of the Eagle Scout designation through their dedicated work and commitment to the local community.
Marine Corps League members were present to recognize the Eagle Scouts initiatives that were in keeping with the highest Marine Corps traditions.
As a part of their newly recognized designation as Eagle Scouts Andrew Bradshaw, Jonathan "Jack" Sullivan and Bryan Weber were formally presented with the Good Citizenship Award.
The Eagle Scouts were also bestowed with the coveted U.S. Marine Corps "KA-BAR" knife. The KA-BAR knife is the combat and utility knife that was adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942.
In addition, former Marine Security Embassy Guard, Daniel Boucek, presented an American flag to Jack Sullivan for his recent "Citizen in the World" merit badge achievement.
This flag was previously flown over the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, and was bestowed to Jack's father by the Marine Security Guard Detachment in Switzerland.
The Marine Corps League perpetuates the traditions and spirit of all Marines and Navy Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen, who proudly wear or who have worn the eagle, globe and anchor of the Corps.
The Marine Corps League is the only congressionally chartered United States Marine Corps-related veterans organization in the United States. Its Congressional Charter was approved by the 75th U.S. Congress and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Aug. 4, 1937. The organization credits its founding in 1923 to legendary Marine Corps Commandant John A. Lejeune.
