Workshop to focus on writing despite tough circumstances
Writers of all genres are welcome to attend the "Writing Despite Your Circumstances" workshop hosted by the American Christian Fiction Writers Chicago Chapter from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Schaumburg Library.
This skill-building workshop will take place in the Program Room on the library's first floor. Participants will learn to apply tips learned in September from multi-published author Allie Pleiter, but attendance at the previous meeting is not required.
"Allie has sold well over a million books and did it all while facing huge challenges in her life," said Susan Miura, vice president of the ACFW-Chicago Chapter.
"Knowing most writers face difficult circumstances from time to time, she will use her experience to share techniques for pushing through. There will be hands-on writing activities to help participants improve their writing skills and focus, no matter what else is happening."
Additionally, the ACFW Chicago Chapter will collect items for Operation Christmas Child, an initiative by Samaritan's Purse to bring gifts to children living in impoverished or war-torn areas worldwide.
The donated gifts will be placed in decorative shoe boxes and delivered by Samaritan's Purse volunteers. Attendees at the Oct. 13 meeting who would like to donate to Operation Christmas Child are welcome to bring small toys, crafts, school supplies, bar soap, toothbrushes, or a financial contribution to help pay for shipping.
Do not bring candy or anything edible; toothpaste; used or damaged items; war-related items; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items; glass containers; or aerosol cans.
There is no fee or registration required for attending this ACFW meeting, and no obligation to join.
For information, go to the ACFW Chicago Chapter Facebook page or call ACFW Chicago Chapter President Lara Helmling at (877) 881-2133.
