Believe Project: $100 to help woman raise her grandson

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Diana Arden of Fox River Grove.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"I believe that $100 would help my mom. She should be enjoying her senior years in Lake Zurich but instead she is raising her 18-year-old grandson. My brother lost his job, lost his apartment and then lived in a shelter with his son. They came here to live with my mom and then one day my brother disappeared, leaving his son with her. My mom is 75 years old. She has five sons who try to help with our nephew. She is on Social Security and has a hard time raising her grandson after raising six kids. She has tried becoming his legal guardian to no avail. She enrolled him in high school and is doing everything she can, forgoing her needs to raise her grandson. The $100 would be used to buy my mom a Jewel gift card to help feed him."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use $100 to do a good deed for someone else.
