Believe Project: $100 to add joy for family with health issues, little money

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Mel Fox of Lake Zurich.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"I have been a Daily Herald subscriber for over 30 years. I am a fourth-grade teacher in Lake Zurich and one of the students in my class would benefit from this project. A student's family moved into his grandparents' house a couple of years ago. My student comes to school dressed in the same clothes most of each week. Many times he has no homework as the family does not have a computer for home use. A few weeks ago, both grandparents and his mother were all in the hospital for different reasons, and he was in charge of his three younger siblings who all have special needs. I am so proud of how he has handled this situation. The money would be well received by the family to help make Christmas a little merrier."

• The Believe Project will award $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use $100 to do a good deed for someone else. Email us your pitch of 100 words or fewer (include your name, address and hometown) to specialevents@dailyherald.com.
