Five-time Chicago Bulls champion Bill Cartwright to appear at Martin Luther King Basketball Clinic
Midwest Sports Academy is welcoming a special guest well known to Chicago Bulls fans to its latest basketball clinic. Bill Cartwright, a member of the Bulls' NBA championship teams in 1991-93, will make a celebrity appearance at the Martin Luther King Keep the Dream Alive Clinic. Midwest Sports Academy's free camp for middle-school players runs from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at The Einstein Academy in Elgin.
Cartwright will pose for photos and sign autographs for children attending the clinic. After nine seasons with the New York Knicks, Cartwright was the Bulls' starting center for six seasons, helping Chicago win NBA titles in 1991, '92 and '93. He later served as an assistant coach under Phil Jackson when the Bulls claimed two more NBA championships in 1997 and 1998 and was Bulls head coach from 2001 to 2003.
“Bill Cartwright is a beloved member of the Chicago Bulls' championship teams,” said Midwest Sports Academy Founder-CEO Jim Cook. “Besides a standout college and professional basketball career, as a father of four, he has a special heart for kids. I look forward to the kids meeting Bill and learning from him.”
Sixth- to eighth-grade students will sharpen their skills under the direction of a veteran clinic staff led by Cook, a long-time AAU and collegiate coach. Players will learn proper shooting and dribbling technique, the basics of individual and team defense and offensive and defensive game strategies. Coaches will group attendees by comparable skill level, age and gender during the clinic at The Einstein Academy, located at 747 Davis Road in Elgin.
Midwest Sports Academy is a non-profit organization providing opportunities for underprivileged children and youth to develop core values, college readiness and athletic skills through educational and sports programs. The academy serves young people throughout the northwest and western suburbs as well as DeKalb County and the Rockford area.
