Lake Zurich stops Mundelein
The streak — Mundelein’s, anyway — is over.
Lake Zurich won for a second straight day as the Bears delivered the Mustangs their first loss this season at home, 4-2 on Thursday.
“No doubt, undefeated Mundelein has one of the top hitting lineups in the state,” Bears coach Gary Simon said. “Mike Mulder was outstanding.”
Mulder pitched 51⁄3 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out six. Mike Shastany got the save, killing a sixth inning Mustangs rally.
For the second day in a row, Nick Jones homered in the first inning. Anthony Drago followed with a homer. The third Bears home run was hit by Dom DeMicco in the fifth.
Lake Zurich improves their record to 4-11 and 2-3 in the North Suburban Lake.
Grayslake Central 7, Woodstock 0: Kevin Peloza tossed his third consecutive shutout going 6 innings and striking out 8. Peloza allowed 2 hits and improved his record to 3-0.
“Kevin keeps getting better with every start,” Rams coach Troy Whalen said. “One shutout in a season is impressive but to have three with more games to go is impressive.”
The Rams (12-8) slapped nine singles over the game led by Justin Allen who had 3 hits.
Wauconda 3, Grant 2: In the North Suburban Prairie game, Wauconda was led offensively by Austin Swenson, who homered, and Ryan Geary, who hit 2-for-3. James Holub got the win on the mound for Wauconda.
Stevenson 9, Loyola 5: The Patriots’ Jake Schnierow pitched 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs and striking out 2 as the Patriots improve their record to 8-6.
