Local Soccer Club Raises Funds to Fight Cancer

It is often said that sports mirrors life itself and when a team comes together to tackle an important task, they can accomplish anything. This is especially true of an exceptional youth organization in Schaumburg. Sports Club United, a soccer club geared towards readying young boys and girls for high school and college soccer, tallied its greatest victory of the 2012 campaign.

In August, the standout soccer club participated in "Relay For Life" a nationwide event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The club raised $11,471.48 for this important cause far exceeding initial goals and expectations.

This goal couldn't have been realized if it wasn't for the efforts of kids in the program who willingly bought into the cause and started raising funds as early as April of this year. "As President of the club, it has always been a goal of mine to not only prepare our youth for the challenges that they will face on the soccer field, but to also provide our players with experiences that transcend sport", says Hamid Mehreioskouei who started Sports Club United in 2011.

Sports Club United will win games this season, but none more important than the victory they achieved in helping to beat cancer.
