Diabetes is a disease affecting the body's ability to produce and/or regulate blood sugar levels. This results from the body's inability to produce or effectively use insulin (a hormone that breaks down glucose and convert it to energy). In the case of Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes, the body stops producing insulin completely. Type 2 diabetes, or adult-onset diabetes, the body doesn't produce enough insulin or is unable to use it properly.

Treatments vary depending on the type and severity of this illness. Type 1 diabetics generally rely on insulin shots to regulate their blood sugar levels, while type 2 diabetics may maintain stable blood sugar through strict diet and exercise. It is important to note that no matter how severe the diagnosis, diabetics face a high risk of serious health problems if they neglect to control the disease and regulate steady blood sugar levels.
