Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundup

The Larkin boys soccer team is on a roll.

The Royals (4-1) picked up their fourth straight victory Thursday night, coming from behind to down Chicago Juarez 5-2 in nonconference action in Chicago.

“We had some guys who didn’t play together last year, so I think our offense is starting to jell together and that has been the biggest part of the winning streak,” said Larkin head coach Ken Hall, whose team was behind 2-1 at halftime

Erik Rodriguez (1 assist), Chris Villalobos, Michael Gomez, Jorge Sibrian, and Diego Ramirez each found the back of the net for the Royals while Tony Hernandez (2 assists), Matthias Warren, and Jazael Medina added the assists. Aldair Dominguez recorded 5 saves in goal for Larkin.

South Elgin 2, Elk Grove 2: After a slow start, the Storm (4-1-1) managed to climb their way back as they scored the game-tying goal with 4 seconds left in the second half to earn a draw in this nonconference game.

“It was a great game and we dominated play in the second half,” stated South Elgin head coach John Uveges.

Jose Hernandez scored the Storm’s first goal on an assist from Owen Bott while Phil Saccameno provided the late game heroics as he took a feed from Erik Stacy and sneaked his shot into the top right corner with just seconds remaining to secure the tie. Tyler Shipon turned away 11 shots on goal.

Streamwood 4, Batavia 2: The Sabres (4-2, 2-0) charged to a 2-1 halftime lead and never looked back as they defeated the Bulldogs in this Upstate Eight River game. Christian Vences led the Sabres with a goal and an assist while Mario Rodriguez, Alejandro Avalos, and Isamel Diaz also recorded goals. Edwin Rueda turned in 1 assist while Bryan Contreras turned away 4 shots on goal.

Elgin 9, CICS Northtown 0: The Maroons (3-1-1) used a dominant half of play as they scored all 9 goals in the first half to lead them to a victory in the St. Patrick Tournament. Tony Escamilla and Juan Flores paced the Maroons with 2 goals and 1 assist a piece. Oscar Rodriguez and Jose Morales also scored 2 goals each while Juan Perez rounded out the scoring with a goal of his own. Flavio Jaimes preserved the shutout with 6 saves in goal.

Dundee-Crown 9, Sycamore 0: The Chargers (5-1) used a balanced offensive attack as they easily handled Sycamore to earn a nonconference victory at home. Ceasar Valdez and Luis Ariaz (1 assist) each recorded 2 goals for the Chargers. Francisco Nava, Malik Washington, Eduardo Arellano, Juan Ramos, and Richard Tinajero also found the back of the net while Jonathan Castillo (2 assists), Nester Franco, Ben Stone, and Salvador Rodriguez added assists. Christian Martinez played shutout soccer as he turned away all 3 shots on goal for the Chargers.

Crystal Lake South 3, Lake Zurich 2: The Gators (2-3) carried an early 1-0 lead out of the first half and held on to earn their first victory in pool play at the Barrington Tournament. Andrew Perrine got the Gators on the board off an assist from Bobby Mayer. Michael Conley and Matt Tobolt rounded out the scoring as Sam Murdock and David Tagatz assisted, respectively. Gus Alvarez recorded 6 saves in goal.

Elgin Academy 5, Christian Liberty 2: Julian Romano started the Hilltoppers (1-0) season out right as he recorded 2 goals to lead Elgin Academy to a victory in its home opener. Freshman Carl Rauschenberger was a key contributor in his varsity debut as he scored once and added an assist. Brandon Perez and Billy Gracik rounded out the scoring for the Hilltoppers while Armin Ward added an assist. Liam Phalen turned away 4 shots on goal in the win.

Westminster Christian 6, Christian Life 2: The Warriors received goals from 6 different players as they earned a convincing victory over Christian Life on the road. Tim Rodgers (2 assists), Frankie Anguilo (1 assist), Robert Kleczynski, Joey Tyrrell, Sam Carani, and Brandon Sanchez all recorded goals for the Warriors while Adam Greene and Nick Gnan added 1 assist each. Carani and Michael Beuse split time in goal and recorded 5 saves a piece.

Wheaton Academy 5, Hampshire 0: The Whip-Purs were unable to get on the board as they fell to Wheaton Academy at home in nonconference action. Andrew Peterson recorded 8 saves in the first half while Cesar Esparza turned away 4 shots on goal while allowing only 1 against.

Harvest Christian 1, Cornerstone Christian 1: The Lions (0-0-1) battled tough as they came to a 1-1 draw in their first regular season match of the year against Cornerstone Christian. Basilio Salazar scored the Lions’ lone goal off a corner kick by Zach Harbaugh. Patrick McGuire maned the goal for the Lions as he recorded 8 saves to hold on to the tie.

Huntley 1, Wauconda 0: The Red Raiders (4-0) were able to keep Wauconda off the scoreboard to not only remain undefeated thus far this season but also to shutout their opponents for the fourth time in a row. Jaime Quintana was unassisted as he scored the Red Raiders’ lone goal while sophomore goalie Auston Emery saved 2 shots on goal.

Burlington Central 5, Rockford Christian 0: The Rockets (5-1-1) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they scored early and often to carry a 3-0 lead into halftime and added 2 insurance goals in the second half to secure the victory. Sean Fitzgerald recorded 2 goals in the first half while Matt O’Connor (1 assist) also found the back of the net in the first half of action. Ian Graffagna recorded a tally to start off the second half while O’Connor recorded his second goal of the night. Brad Herron, Brad Yarwood, and Jose Uribe each recorded assists while Nolan St. John (2 saves) and Brett Rau (3 saves) combined for the shut out in goal for the Rockets.
