Addison hosts first Open Disc Golf Tournament Sept. 8

The Addison Park District will be hosting its First Annual Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 8 starting at 8:00 AM at the newly designed 9-hole disc golf course in Foxdale Park.

This 18-hole recreational tournament is open to all players 16 years of age and older.

The 18-hole tournament (2 rounds) will be played on a par-3 course with a 2270' layout.

Water, trees and other obstacles make this a challenging but enjoyable course for all levels. Players must supply their own discs and pre-register for the event.

The participation fee is $20/person for Addison residents and $30/person for anyone living outside of Addison. Online registration is available at: www.addisonparks.org.

This recreational event is a great way to experience disc golf and its similarities to traditional golf. The object of the game is to complete each hole in the fewest number of strokes, or throws. There is a starting tee box at each hole where players take aim at a target basket set at varying distances. Consecutive shots are taken from the place where the disc lands before reaching the target basket. Disc golf players share the same joys and frustrations as regular golfers, whether it's sinking a long putt or hitting a tree in the fairway.

Foxdale Park's disc golf course is rated Par 3 appealing to both beginners and those wanting to improve their scoring shots. The course is set on fairly level terrain with only one water hazard. A course map is available online at the Professional Disc Golf Association's course directory at www.pdga.com.

The Addison Park District is committed to providing the highest quality recreational opportunities and open space for everyone. The 2012 Fall Fun Guide was delivered to the homes of Addison residents on Aug. 17. Additional copies of the brochure are available in each facility and online at www.addisonparks.org with a full curriculum of leisure activities for all ages and lifestyles.
