Junior High Children Reach Out to Help Starving Peers

The children and staff of the St. Petronille Parish Junior High are continuing their givining ways into the summer months, and have donated $150 to benefit the Feed the Kids (FTK) program of the Humanitarian Service Project located in Carol Stream, IL. The school, which is located in Glen Ellyn, IL, has formed a long-term relationshp with HSP, getting involved through a wide array of volunteer opportunities, donations, and food drive collections. The St. Petronille Parish Junior High has teamed with HSP since 1999, as HSP aims to alleviate the devastating hunger of children and senior citizens throughout the community.

The money will be used specifically to help supply vital produce and groceries to the families enrolled in HSP's FTK program, which seeks to ease the pains of hunger for school-aged children throughout the Kane and DuPage counties who are living below the state poverty level. Through FTK and the help of St. Petronille's generous donation, 100 families with a total of 360 children will be supplied with life-saving groceries during the months of June, July and August. These children, who receive the majority of their daily nutrients from federally subsidized meals at school through the School Breakfast Program and National Lunch Program, experience a drastic reduction in nutrition during the summer months and often go hungry. The 575 pounds of fresh, quality groceries provided to each family over the summer eases the suffering which these impoverished children face.
