Grove Players presents "Holiday"
Grove Players presents their spring show of the 2011-2012 season. "Holiday" is a romantic comedy that follows the whirlwind courtship of Johnny Case (David Amato of Glen Ellyn) and Julia Seton (Jennifer Price of Burr Ridge) who meet while on holiday in Lake Placid and become engaged. They come home and announce their engagement, and Johnny meets the family: father, Edward Seton (Bob Kosson of Brookfield), brother, Ned (Curtis Sehy of Lombard) and sister, Linda (Toria Hollyn).
Linda proclaims, "Money is our god," and Johnny soon finds out how deep that materialism runs when he meets the ghastly Seton cousins, Laura and Seton Cram (Claire Rogoski of Riverside and David Andrews of Naperville) at the New Year's Eve party. Fortunately, Johnny has two fun-loving best friends, Susan and Nick Potter (Karen Arnold of Westmont and Doug Dvorak of Downers Grove) who support his dream of retiring early and working late.
The cast is rounded out with the household staff, Henry and Delia (Mike Manolakes of Bolingbrook and Tina Matriciano of Palos Hills).
Two of the "Holiday" actors have previously appeared on the Grove Players stage. Last season highlighted the dramatic skills of Karen Arnold, who appeared in "The Shadowbox," and Dave Amato was the lead actor in "Over the River and Through the Woods" in 2009. A third cast member, Bob Kosson, directed "Sabrina Fair" for Grove Players in 2010.
The show is directed by Charles A. Berglund (of Naperville), and is team-produced by Susan O'Byrne, Michelle Olejnik and Jen Torchia (of Hinsdale, Downers Grove and Lombard, respectively) and stage managed by O'Byrne.
"Holiday" was written by Philip Barry, debuted in 1928, and was made into a movie in 1930 and again in 1938. Barry is also known for his play, "The Philadelphia Story."
