Wauconda nets sweep of Waukegan

Sophomore Lauren Nee circled the bases for an inside-the-park home run and added a triple, as Wauconda’s softball team blanked host Waukegan 13-0 in the second game of a nonconference doubleheader Saturday.

Winning pitcher Lexie Redmann (double), Haley Kramer (2 runs) and Jessica Kinder (2 RBI, 2 runs) also had 2 hits for Wauconda. Lauren Thomas added a triple.

Redmann had a perfect game through three innings.

Wauconda (9-10) won the first game 5-3, getting a season-high 10 strikeouts from winning pitcher Thomas.

Thomas also had 2 hits, as did Emily Holub. Alex Kinnamon had a double and walk.

Conant sweeps Stevenson: Oklahoma-bound Miranda Cavin hit a 2-run walk-off homer in the fifth inning, giving the Cougars a 12-2 win in Game 2 of the nonconference doubleheader.

It was her third home run, including a fourth-inning grand slam. She finished with 9 RBI. Rachel O’Malley, who will play Division I softball at Radford, added a 2-run homer.

Cailin Rubenstein had a double off winning pitcher Briana Cavin and also scored a run for Stevenson (2-12), which dropped the second game 16-4.

Briana Cavin’s walk-off homer with two on ended it in the fifth. Kim Jacobson hit a grand slam for Conant, which also got homers again from Miranda Cavin and O’Malley.

Dana Morgan doubled for Stevenson.

Lake Zurich 10, Palatine 2: Carlee Parsons went 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored and an RBI, and Christina Sandstedt was 2-for-3 with a double, walk and 3 RBI for the host Bears in the nonconference game.

Kasey Roe and Mallory Parsons also doubled for Lake Zurich (9-6), and Shannon McPeek earned the complete-game victory.

Antioch 2, Grant 0: In their finale of the District 117 invite on their home field, the Sequoits saw Katie Phillips shut down the Bulldogs on 3 hits over 6 innings. Phillips struck out nine and walked one.

Sage Keyes was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI for Antioch (10-7), which went 3-0 on the day. Jessica Pedersen went 2-for-3.

Antioch 10, Johnsburg 3: In their second of three games on their home diamond, the Sequoits received 2 hits apiece from Amber Mysliwiec (double, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Hannah Skoog (stolen base) and Kaylene Ressler (RBI).

Katie Keefe had 4 strikeouts in notching the victory.

Antioch 7, Addison Trail 4: The Sequoits started their own tournament by building a 7-0 lead after four innings.

Winning pitcher Katie Phillips was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. She struck out nine in her 7 innings.

Jessica Pedersen was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI for Antioch.

Libertyville sweeps Buffalo Grove: The visiting Wildcats earned a sweep of the nonconference doubleheader, as they won 11-5 and 2-0.

Emilie Teitz was the winning pitcher in Game 2 and went 2-for-4 at the plate. The Wildcats also received offensive support from Tayler Oberman (3-for-5, double), Nicole Kruckman (2-for-5), Val Steinhauser (2-for-5) and Andie Grant (2-for-4).

Libertyville’s opening win included Margaret Haws going 3-for-3 and Haley Alban pitching a 2-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts.

The pair of wins stretched the Wildcats’ winning streak to three games and hiked their record to 4-7.

At Lakes: Zion-Benton went 3-0, beating Richmond-Burton 7-2, Lakes 15-4 and Grayslake North 2-1.

Lakes, Grayslake North and Richmond-Burton all went 1-2.

Warren 9, Deerfield 1: On Friday, Megan Sowa hit a solo homer, Jodie Hurd went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Kelly Majewski was 2-for-4 as well for the host Blue Devils.

Jenna Wagner did not allow an earned run in her complete-game effort, as Warren improved to 14-2-1 with the nonconference win. Wagner struck out five, scattered 4 hits and did not walk a batter.

The win was the Blue Devils’ fourth in a row.
