Demand’s the man for Lakes

Justin Demand demonstrated good command.

The junior earned his first varsity win, as Lakes’ baseball team defeated host Round Lake 11-3 in North Suburban Prairie Division action Wednesday.

Demand allowed only 2 hits over 6 innings. He struck out seven and walked four. The 3 runs he allowed were unearned.

The Eagles (6-9, 1-3) were lead offensively by seniors Chris Hoffman (3-for-4, 2 runs, double, RBI, 2 stolen bases), Jake Brown (3-for-4, 2 runs, double, 3 RBI), and Kyle Neeve (2-for-3, run, double, RBI). Ryan Burnett was 2-for-3 and drove in a run.

Anthony Gutierrez had a single, walk and an RBI for Round Lake.

Antioch 16, North Chicago 2: Mike Richter pitched 4 innings for the win in the North Suburban Prairie game that lasted five innings.

Richter yielded both North Chicago runs, striking four, as the Sequoits improved to 6-3 and 2-0 in the NSC Prairie.

Vernon Hills 11, Westminster Christian 1: Pat Crowley earned his fourth win for the Cougars, allowing 4 hits, walking one, striking out eight and allowing 1 run in 5 innings.

Vernon Hills scored twice in the bottom of the first. MJ Crowley reached on a walk and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Tyler Feece. Chris Marras singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the second, the Cougars completed an impressive offensive feat.

With two outs, they scored 6 runs on 7 consecutive hits, five of which came with two strikes. MJ Crowley started things off as he fouled off several pitches before singling. Two pitches later, Eric Lang lined a single to center field. Marras, Austin Hagen and Feece all followed suit by delivering two-strike hits.

Steve Nelson continued the rally when he hit a full-count double. John Foley added a two-strike single of his own.

After cutting its deficit to 7 runs, Westminster went to flame thrower Ryan Perez. Vernon Hills continued hitting, as Marras and Hagen hit back-to-back base hits.

Wauconda 8, Grant 7: Jack Botheroyd’s walk-off single scored David Diol, capping a 5-run bottom of the seventh for Wauconda.

Shawn Sundquist doubled and singled for Wauconda (7-3, 3-1), while Diol also had 2 hits. Trevor Lahrman earned the win in relief.

Simeon Lucas had 2 doubles for Grant (8-3, 3-1). Jake Ring tripled, and Jordan Villarreal and Brent Spohr also had doubles.

Warren 8, Stevenson 0: The host Blue Devils got home runs from Pat Kenney and Adam Glogovsky, and Adam Reuss pitched 5 innings for the win, striking out six and allowing 6 hits in the North Suburban Lake game.

Kenney finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, Alex Letto had a double and 2 RBI, and Ben Dinter went 2-for-3.

Glogovsky, who recently committed to Illinois Wesleyan, finished up on the mound for Warren (4-8, 1-3).

Stevenson (7-5, 3-1) did not have an extra-base hit.

Libertyville 15, Zion-Benton 7: Anthony Mack tripled twice and Evan Skoug doubled twice for the visiting Wildcats in the North Suburban Lake contest.

Mack drove in 3 runs, while Skoug, Matt Vogt and P.J. Neumann each knocked in a pair. Vogt and Justin Guarnaccio also had doubles for Libertyville (8-3, 2-0).
