Moran gives Grant a morale boost
Sophomore Caitlin Moran provided some heroics in extra innings for Grant’s softball team Thursday.
Moran’s walk-off single with two out in the ninth inning scored Jessica Catinella, giving the Bulldogs a 4-3 win over visiting Libertyville in a North Suburban Conference crossover.
Catinella had started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball before scoring on Moran’s single into right field. Moran also drove in the game-tying run in the sixth.
Winning pitcher Rachel DePouw had 2 of Grant’s 6 hits. Jamie Reiser added a double for the Bulldogs, who improved to 8-2.
Antioch 7, Stevenson 0: The Sequoits scored 6 runs in the bottom of the third en route to the North Suburban Conference crossover win.
Katie Phillips earned the win, scattering 4 hits, walking four and striking out four. Taylor Schiltz was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base for Antioch (5-4), while fellow freshman Jessica Pedersen contributed 2 stolen bases.
Lexi Yonkovic was 2-for-3 for Stevenson (0-7)
Mundelein 12, Round Lake 0: Molly Ellett pitched a five-inning 2-hit shutout and aided her own cause by going 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored for the visiting Mustangs in the North Suburban crossover.
Maddie Zazas also went 3-for-3, pounding 3 doubles and knocking in 4 runs for Mundelein (3-5). Caity Hanscom was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Warren 12, Vernon Hills 0: Anna Balch was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, and Lisiann Rodriguez (double, 2 RBI) and Jill Fox added 2 hits apiece for the visiting Blue Devils in the North Suburban crossover.
Warren (9-1-1) scored in every inning except the first and fifth.
Jessica Demski earned the win, striking out six, walking one and scattering 4 hits.
Vernon Hills fell to 6-5.
Wauconda 11, Lake Forest 0: Lauren Nee was 3-for-3 with a triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for the host Bulldogs in the North Suburban crossover.
Wauconda (6-6) also got 2 hits apiece from Megan Grobelny (run) and Megan Luchowski. Luchowski and Kennedy Wright had doubles for the Bulldogs, and Lauren Thomas pitched a five-inning 3-hitter. Thomas struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.
