Big rally elevates Lakes; Grant’s DePouw fans 12
A 10-run explosion in the fifth inning hoisted Lakes’ softball team to a 14-2 win in five innings over visiting Round Lake in North Suburban Prairie Division action Tuesday.
Lakes was led by a flawless day at the dish by Kate Hohenstatt, who went 2-for-2.
Lourdes Delarosa doubled, singled and drove in 2 runs for Round Lake.
Lakes (2-0 NSC Prairie) piled up 8 stolen bases, including three by Jamie Dykstra and two apiece by Hohenstatt and Montana Mang.
Grant 6, Wauconda 1: Rachel DePouw struck out 12 and helped her own cause with a double, as the host Bulldogs improved to 7-1 and 2-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.
Grant also got doubles from Molly Smith, who had 2 hits, Amber Smith and Jamie Reiser. DePouw allowed only 4 hits and walked a pair.
“She pitched well,” Grant coach Mike Dolezal said. “She really had command of the game.”
Antioch 16, North Chicago 0: Katie Keefe pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts, and both she and Taylor Shiltz had a triple and 5 RBI, as the Sequoits won the North Suburban Prairie Division contest.
Hannah Skoog was 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored for Antioch, and Kaylene Ressler went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Lake Zurich 14, Mundelein 2: Maria Schroeder was 4-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored for the host Bears, who won in five innings to even their North Suburban Lake record at 1-1.
McKenna Larson (2 RBI), Kasey Roe (2 RBI, 2 runs) and Kelly Neises (2 runs) each had 2 hits for Lake Zurich (3-5). Ashley Pettinger tripled and Christina Sandstedt doubled. Shannon McPeek pitched all 5 innings for the Bears, allowing 7 hits, striking out three and not walking a batter.
Warren 6, Stevenson 1: Megan Sowa and Kelly Majewski tripled for the visiting Blue Devils, who improved to 2-0 in the North Suburban Lake.
Jana Wagner earned the win.
Stevenson (0-6, 0-1) received 2 hits apiece from Cailin Rubenstein and Morgan Manka.
Zion-Benton 9, Libertyville 5: The Zee-Bees scored 5 runs in the top of the seventh to erase a 5-4 deficit and win the North Suburban Lake contest.
Taylor Oberman (2-for-4) had a bases-clearing double to put Libertyville ahead in the sixth. The 3-RBI hit highlighted the 5-run frame.
“Aggressive baserunning allowed us to stay in the inning and eventually go ahead,” Wildcats coach Elissa Wisniewski said.
Libertyville also received 2 hits apiece from Nicole Kruckman and Sam Bone. Andie Grant also had a double for the Wildcats.
