Stevenson seizes control
Stevenson trailed after one quarter before taking command against Christian Liberty in a 68-23 victory in tournament play Wednesday at Buffalo Grove.
Senior Michael Fleming and freshman Jalen Brunson had 10 points apiece to lead a balanced Stevenson scoring effort; senior Colby Cashaw and fresman Connor Cashaw both had 8 points.
The Patriots, 2-1 after three tourney games at BG, resume action Saturday in their tournament finale against the host Bison at 7:30 p.m.
Grant 75, Marengo 49: At Johnsburg, Sean Wells scored 17 points and Jared Helmich added 15, as the Bulldogs evened their record at 1-1 in the Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton tournament.
Jerry Gaylor added 10 points for Grant, which resumes the tournament with a 7 p.m. tipoff Friday at Johnsburg against the host Skyhawks. The Bulldogs also got 9 points from Allen Lewis and 8 from Thomas Blanchette.
Vernon Hills 70, Guerin 57: Senior guard Darren Hoveydai and junior guard Stephen Curry produced 21 points apiece as the Cougars netted a victory in Northridge Prep tournament play.
Rockford Jefferson 65, Wauconda 63: Kyle Ryan scored 23 points and added 6 rebounds and 4 steals, and Matt Mead added 17 points and 6 rebounds, as the Bulldogs came up one bucket short in tournament play at Richmond-Burton. The game was tight the whole way, with tie scored at the half (30-30) and after three quarters (47-47).
To accommodate Richmond-Burton, whose football team plays Rochester in the Class 4A state championship game at 7 p.m. Friday downstate, Wauconda's game against Richmond-Burton will be played at 9 a.m. Friday at R-B.
