Miltary veterans offered free retreat weekend
Mayslake Ministries is offering “Coming Home” a healing retreat program for military veterans on Nov. 11-13 at Cardinal Stritch Retreat House in Mundelein.
Coming Home is a Christian-based retreat program designed to help military men and women come to spiritual healing and reconciliation with God. The program is about spirituality, not religion, and specifically addresses the issue of post-traumatic spiritual stress disorder.
This is a two-night weekend retreat offered to veterans and their significant others (should they also wish to attend) in a place of safety, respite and support. Retreat leader, Sister Linda McClenahan, a veteran herself, served as a communications sergeant in Vietnam. She is now a Dominican Sister and licensed professional counselor and therapist whose ministry involves helping veterans and others deal with trauma.
While this is a Christian retreat, veterans of any faith tradition and of any age are welcome. It is free to all military veterans, with meals and lodging included. For details, contact mayslakeministries.org or call (630) 268-9000.
Those interested in supporting a veteran in honor of a veteran who has died can cover the retreat cost of one participant with a donation of $200. Call for details.
